Portraiture, like other aspects of representational art, is based in two elements: An understanding of structure; and the placement of surface features related to that structure. In this workshop we will focus first on the anatomy of the head, most importantly the architectural structure of the skull and its relation to everything seen on the surface. With this understanding, we will then search for likeness and expression, resulting in the creation of true portraiture.

This workshop will include hands-on instruction and demonstrations, short slide presentations and discussion of successful portraiture, and individual and class critiques. Students will work from a live model throughout the workshop.
